Welcome to Moonstone Setters.

Moonstone Kennel, located in southern Rhode Island, was established in 1988 when I obtained my first Gordon Setter from the notable Rockaplenty Kennel in Virginia. It was the beginning of a wonderful journey into the world of setters. Since that time many of our "kids" and "grand-kids" have gone on to earn titles in conformation, obedience, and field. All are terrific family companions.

How it all began

I had shown my Doberman, Godfrey's Krakerjax, only in obedience. We had much success both in AKC and Canada. After Kracker died at the age of 14, I decided to get a Gordon Setter.  I had wanted a dog that could do both breed and obedience. Rockaplenty's Fantasy (Fancy) earned Championships in both AKC and Canada. She easily earned her AKC Companion Dog (CD) with three high-in-trials. Fancy was also #1 gordon setter in novice and #1 in advanced obedience in Canada. Both Fancy and Sarah were used during Kidz Dayz (a childrens summer camp), visited nursing homes, and schools. Sarah's son, UCH Moonstone Maxwell Smart, and grandaughter, UCH Moonstone Keltic Lass JH, are featured in a book published in Britain called GORDON SETTER by Lavonia Harper. Fancy's grandaughter, UCH Moonstone Heiress JH, was #1 Gordon Setter in UKC in 2000.

In the fall of 2000 I was sent in a whole new direction when I obtained my first Irish Red & White Setter from the world famous Ardbraccan Kennel of Miss Trudy Walsh of Dublin, Ireland. Ardbraccan Grainne (How could I resist her when we share the same birthday?) easily earned her American Rare Breed and Rarities Championships-- going Reserve Best in Show and Best in Specialty along the way. In June of 2003 Grainne gave birth to ten lovely puppies- several have already begun their show careers with excellent success by earning Championships in United Kennel Club and American Rare Breed Association (ARBA).

Please feel free to send me those special photos of your Moonstone dog. I'd love to add them to the site. Thanks for stopping in for a visit. Come back soon.
